President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday, January 26, for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between both countries.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the visit is expected to deepen cooperation in key areas such as security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.
The trip also built on the existing cordial relationship between Nigeria and Türkiye, following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s official visit to Nigeria in October 2021.
During the visit, President Tinubu and his Turkish counterpart will hold strategic political and diplomatic talks focused on shared interests in finance, communication, trade, and investment. High-level engagements will also feature the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration, and protocol.
A major highlight of the visit will be a business forum bringing together investors from both nations to explore partnership opportunities and strengthen economic ties.
Members of the Nigerian delegation include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and Chairman, House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.
Also accompanying the President are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
The Presidency noted that President Tinubu is expected to return to the country at the conclusion of the visit.
