At least 20 people have been confirmed dead and more than 50 houses submerged following a devastating flood that hit Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa communities in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) attributed the disaster to a heavy downpour on Wednesday, which triggered massive flooding across the affected areas.
Director General of the Agency, Abdullahi Baba Arah, told the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) that three survivors a woman and her two children are currently receiving treatment at the Mokwa General Hospital. He noted that rescue operations were still ongoing at the time of filing this report.
In response to the disaster,Niger state Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago expressed his condolences to the victims and their families. In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the Governor described the incident as tragic and assured that the state government is taking immediate steps to support the affected communities.
