Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, have recorded major operational successes in Jos North and Wase Local Government Area, arresting suspected impostors and neutralising terrorists in coordinated counter-terrorism operations.
The breakthroughs, which occurred late Thursday, followed intensified military deployment aimed at restoring peace across troubled communities in Plateau State.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, troops responded to a distress call at Dutse Uku in Jos North at about 11:45 p.m. intercepted two individuals disguised as security operatives. The suspects, clad in black tactical uniforms, were apprehended while allegedly setting residential buildings ablaze and fomenting violence in the area.
The military confirmed that the arrested suspects are currently in custody, while two civilians who sustained gunshot wounds during the incident were evacuated to a medical facility and are in stable condition.
The arrest is seen as a significant development amid recent allegations of military involvement in the unrest, with authorities stating that the incident exposes criminal elements impersonating security personnel to perpetrate attacks and discredit the Armed Forces.
In a related operation in Karem, Wase Local Government Area, troops on heightened alert engaged a group of terrorists reportedly moving on motorcycles. Following a brief firefight, the insurgents fled under sustained military pressure, with three of them neutralised during the encounter.
The military attributed the recent successes to the deployment of additional troops, including specialised counter-terrorism units ordered by the Chief of Army Staff earlier on Thursday.
Security officials say the reinforced presence has already begun to stabilise volatile areas and strengthen operational control across the state.
The Joint Task Force reiterated its commitment to eliminating all criminal elements, warning that hoodlums and insurgents operating within Plateau State will face decisive action.
Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements, as efforts intensify to restore lasting peace and security in the region.
