Troops of the Nigerian Army under the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised three terrorists and recovered weapons following a fierce gun battle in Kadam Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation, carried out by troops of the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Battalion 7 in collaboration with the 8 Division Strike Team, was launched after credible intelligence revealed that more than 100 terrorists had assembled deep within Kadam Forest to coordinate attacks and kidnappings targeting nearby communities.
According to a statement on Monday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, troops swiftly mobilised to intercept the suspected terrorists and established contact with them at about 12:00 noon.
He said the encounter resulted in a fierce and sustained firefight, during which the terrorists attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre but were repelled by troops who maintained tactical superiority with overwhelming firepower.
Osoba disclosed that follow-up exploitation operations in the forest confirmed the neutralisation of three terrorists, while several others were believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.
He added that troops recovered one PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, 350 rounds of PKT ammunition, 111 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, three magazines, two radios, three motorcycles and a mobile phone from the scene.
The army spokesman noted that troops’ morale remains high, describing their fighting efficiency as strong and unwavering.
He said aggressive patrols and sustained offensive operations are ongoing across the area to exploit the success, track fleeing terrorists and prevent them from regrouping.
Osoba emphasised that the operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven joint security efforts aimed at degrading terrorist networks and disrupting their operational capabilities in the North-West.
