Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have recorded another major success in the fight against terrorism and criminal networks with the disruption of an illicit drug supply chain in Borno State.
The operation, conducted under Operation Desert Sanity V, led to the arrest of a 65-year-old suspected drug dealer, Hauwa Abulazeez, on January 23, 2026, in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, following credible intelligence.
Confirming the development, the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Uba Sani, said the suspect was a major supplier of cannabis sativa to Boko Haram terrorist elements operating in Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu, and Gaya communities, and served as a key link in the distribution of illicit drugs across the North East Theatre.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs were sourced from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area of Taraba State and transported through established routes for onward distribution.
During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 30 kilograms, in what security officials described as a significant interception aimed at weakening criminal and terrorist logistics.
The suspect is currently in military custody and undergoing preliminary investigation, while further operations are ongoing to identify and dismantle other members of the trafficking network.
Military authorities noted that the interception highlights the importance of cutting off illicit supply chains that fuel violence, insecurity, and criminal activities in the region.
“By denying these networks access to resources, the operation contributes to improved security, reduced criminal influence, and strengthened lawful authority,” the statement said.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations and maintaining pressure on criminal elements across the North East.
The military assured that troops will continue to deny criminal and terrorist networks the space and resources needed to operate, in pursuit of lasting peace and stability in the region.
