The Armed Forces of Nigeria has expanded its civil-military cooperation strategy through humanitarian interventions and community development programmes aimed at strengthening trust and improving livelihoods in conflict-affected regions.
This was disclosed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, during the May 2026 operational briefing on ongoing military operations.
He said the Nigerian Air Force conducted a comprehensive medical outreach in Maiduguri, Borno State, providing free healthcare services including consultations, dental and eye care, medications, specialist referrals, and relief materials to hundreds of residents.
The outreach targeted women, children, elderly persons, and internally displaced persons, while also incorporating health education sessions aimed at improving public health awareness in vulnerable communities.
In a separate intervention, the Nigerian Army under Operation FANSAN YAMMA distributed 400 bags of fertiliser to farming communities in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State ahead of the 2026 farming season.
Maj. Gen. Onoja explained that the initiative was designed to support agricultural productivity, reduce economic hardship, and strengthen civil-military relations in insecurity-affected areas.
Community leaders and traditional rulers reportedly commended the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful support that would boost food production and local resilience.
He reaffirmed that such non-kinetic engagements remained a key component of the Armed Forces’ broader strategy to complement kinetic operations and sustain long-term peace.
