The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for his New Year message, describing it as a “gloom-ridden wishlist” aimed at scoring cheap political points.
In a statement issued by Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, the party accused Obi of painting a misleading picture of Nigeria’s political, economic, and security situation. The APC emphasized that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has achieved significant progress since taking office, contrary to Obi’s assertions.
Morka outlined several milestones under the Tinubu administration, including:
A substantial decline in the debt servicing ratio from 90% to 64%.
Revival of moribund refineries in Port Harcourt and Warri.
Improved oil production and exports.
Increased foreign direct investment and stock market growth.
Higher federal allocations to states and local governments.
A strengthened war on corruption, with ongoing investigations and trials of high-profile individuals.
The statement also noted President Tinubu’s acknowledgment of challenges such as inflation and high food costs, while reaffirming the administration’s commitment to reducing inflation from 34% to 15% and boosting food production.
The APC dismissed Obi’s criticism as an attempt to incite public dissatisfaction, accusing him of lacking transformative achievements during his eight years as Governor of Anambra State.
“Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, President Tinubu is turning the nation’s fortunes around.We urge Nigerians to remain confident of better days ahead and support the administration’s ongoing reforms.”the statement read.
