The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior officers across various ranks in the Nigeria Police Force, in what authorities describe as part of ongoing reforms to strengthen welfare, boost morale, and reward professionalism within the Force.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the promotion exercise cuts across Commands and Formations nationwide and covers officers at multiple entry-level ranks.
The breakdown shows that 165 Sergeants were elevated to Inspectors, 73 Corporals were promoted to Sergeants, while 17,714 Constables were advanced to the rank of Corporal.
The Inspector-General emphasized that timely promotion remains a key component of the Force’s human resource management strategy and an essential tool for motivating officers to remain committed to their constitutional responsibilities. He added that the exercise reflects the leadership’s commitment to merit-based career progression and institutional strengthening.
He congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to see their elevation as a call to greater responsibility, discipline, and professionalism. He further charged them to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force, maintain respect for human rights, and remain steadfast in enforcing the rule of law.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to rewarding hard work, promoting excellence, and aligning its operations with global best practices in modern policing.
