Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello in a display of good, responsible and responsive leadership,stopped his convoy at Sayyako- New Market area of Minna to address youths in the community over the continued blackout suffered by the people of the area in the last two months.
The Governor was heading for Kuta in Shiroro Local Government area of the state in continuation of his assessment of projects initiated and executed by his administration in all the 25 local government councils.
The youths , who are mostly artisans had lined the road to raise concerns about how the blackout has affected their businesses and families .
Governor Sani-Bello moved by the sight of the youth, directed his driver to stop and alighted from his vehicle to listen to the complaint of the youths .
According to him, the government was trying her best to ensure that electricity problem was solved, and so far the power supply to the state has improved after a successful meeting with AEDC fortnight ago.
He said that even though it was not the responsibility of government to purchase transformers, his administration has taken it upon itself to purchase transformers for Nigerlites, a responsibility of AEDC.
Governor Sani-Bello further said that plans were underway to see the possibility of purchasing pre-paid metres in order to see that the estimated billing system comes to an end.
He urged the youths to be law abiding and henceforth seek dialogue in a civic way to channel their complaints
The Governor who was sympathetic with the youths directed the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe to step down from the convoy and liaise with the management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to ensure the restoration of power to the area immediately.
“Recently the committee on restoration and stabilisation of power supply to the state under the chairmanship of my Deputy have recorded some progress with the distribution company. I will only appeal to you (youth and electricity consumers) to regularly and promptly settle their bills in order to enjoy better services ” Governor Sani-Bello urged.
