The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the National Assembly to ensure registered entities comply with the provisions of the Disability Act 2018.
Registrar-General Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by Honourable Bashiru Dawodu, Chairman of the House Committee on Disability, to the Commission’s headquarters. Magaji emphasized the CAC’s role as the custodian of registered entities, expressing the Commission’s readiness to leverage provisions of the Act to enforce compliance among companies.
Magaji highlighted the Commission’s efforts in promoting inclusivity, stating that despite limited resources, the CAC has ensured fair representation of persons with disabilities in its workforce and compliance with the Act’s requirements within its facilities. He also noted a surge in registration requests from organizations focused on disability advocacy, reflecting growing awareness of the Act.
In his remarks, Hon. Bashiru Dawodu commended the CAC for its proactive approach in complying with the Act and urged the Commission to sustain its efforts. He called on the CAC to assist in enforcing Section 167 of the Act, particularly among builders and corporate entities, to ensure accessibility for persons with disabilities.
The collaboration between the CAC and the National Assembly underscored their joint commitment to fostering inclusivity and ensuring compliance with the Disability Act across Nigeria.
