The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Rosaline Ogunro on her emergence as the new Mayor of Islington in the United Kingdom, describing the achievement as a proud moment for Nigeria and a testament to excellence, dedication, and impactful community service.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Commission’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa said Ogunro’s elevation to the prestigious office reflects the growing impact of Nigerians occupying leadership positions across the globe.
Rosaline Ogunro was first elected Councillor for St. Peter’s and Canalside Ward of Islington Council in May 2022. Since then, she has served on the Homes and Communities Scrutiny Committee, the Licensing Committee, and also as Deputy Mayor before her emergence as Mayor of Islington.
Dabiri-Erewa commended Ogunro’s commitment to public service, community development, and advocacy, noting that her years of dedicated service have distinguished her as a worthy ambassador of Nigeria in the United Kingdom.
According to the NiDCOM boss, Ogunro’s inspiring journey underscores the positive contributions Nigerians in the Diaspora continue to make in their host communities.
Before becoming a councillor, Ogunro worked with several voluntary organisations, including the Islington Citizens Advice Bureau, where she currently serves part-time as an adviser. She also previously worked in the Marketing Department of the London Symphony Orchestra as Customer Service and Office Coordinator and was an active member of the Orchestra’s Community Choir for more than two decades.
She also has a background in broadcasting and worked with Radio Nigeria before relocating to the United Kingdom. In May 2022, she was appointed to the Board of Trustees of St Luke’s Centre.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Ogunro is known for her passion for singing, fashion designing, clothing production, and gardening.
Dabiri-Erewa expressed confidence that the new Mayor would bring her wealth of experience, compassion, and leadership qualities to bear in office following her official installation on Wednesday, May 27.
She also encouraged Nigerians in the Diaspora to continue distinguishing themselves positively in their various fields of endeavour while wishing Ogunro a successful and impactful tenure.
