Stakeholders in the plight of widows will be in Ibadan on Sunday for the Channel for Widow Relief Initiative (CFWRI) public book presentation on how to assist the widows and orphans in Nigeria.
The book, written by the Executive Director and Chief Executive of CFWRI, Alhaja Fadhilah Omotunde Balogun, entitled, “Overcoming the Challenges of Widowhood”, would comes up by 1pm at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
Balogun said the book explores the harrowing experiences of widows and proffers remedies that will bring succour to bereaved women and their orphaned children.
The author, Balogun, herself a widow, was inspired to set up the non-governmental organisation when she lost her beloved husband 15 years ago to support widows and their children financially, morally and even legally by fighting for the rights of widows through the court processes.
Since setting up the NGO in 2012, the CFWRI has helped more than 500 widows through regular financial assistance which includes outright cash gifts, non-interest loans, skill acquisition trainings in fashion designing, poultry management, and other micro businesses.
According to Alhaja Balogun, proceeds from the book launch would be poured back into the NGO to help more widows and orphans, including the over 500 already on their list of aid recipients.
