Customs Raises Alarm Over Fake Facebook Account Impersonating Spokesperson

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has alerted members of the public to a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating its National Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada.

In a scam alert issued on Thursday, the Service said the account is fake and does not belong to the NCS or its spokesperson, warning that it was created to mislead and defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

The NCS clarified that the only authentic Facebook account of Deputy Comptroller Maiwada is his verified account bearing the blue verification badge. It urged members of the public to treat any other account using his name or photograph as fraudulent.

The Service advised the public to report and block the fake account and avoid engaging with or responding to messages from the impersonator.

It also warned members of the public never to send money or disclose personal information to anyone claiming to represent the Nigeria Customs Service through unverified social media accounts.

The NCS urged Nigerians to rely only on its verified communication channels for accurate information and official updates, including its Facebook page, Instagram, X, Threads and TikTok accounts, all under @customsng, as well as its official website, customs.gov.ng.

The Service concluded with a caution to the public: “Stay vigilant. Verify before you trust.”
