The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has reiterated the Service’s commitment to enhancing trade facilitation and improving operational efficiency during a working visit to the Oyo/Osun Area Command in Ibadan on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
A major highlight of the CG’s visit was the inspection of the Ibadan Train Station Terminal and a proposed private bonded warehouse in the region. The bonded facility, when fully operational, is expected to play a pivotal role in expediting cargo clearance and decongesting the nation’s seaports.
Speaking during the inspection, CG Adeniyi stated, “The warehouse will complement ongoing efforts to decongest seaports and expedite the movement of goods to their final destinations. This aligns with our broader goal of simplifying customs procedures and promoting legitimate trade.”
Earlier, the Customs Area Controller for Oyo/Osun Command, Comptroller Joseph Adelaja, welcomed the CG and presented the Command’s performance report. He disclosed that the Command generated ₦28.05 billion in revenue between February and May 2025, a notable increase compared to ₦23.84 billion recorded during the same period last year. He also reported the seizure of contraband goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of over ₦917 million.
Despite the progress, Comptroller Adelaja identified key challenges hindering operations, including a shortage of manpower, inadequate operational vehicles, and electricity supply issues at the command’s barracks. He appealed to the CG for the deployment of at least 80 junior officers and provision of 16 additional operational vehicles to enhance field activities.
Responding to the concerns, CG Adeniyi assured the command that their requests would be considered urgently. He emphasized the importance of professionalism, continuous training, and dedication to duty in achieving the Service’s objectives, particularly in aligning with global best practices.
The visit underscored the Customs Service’s renewed drive to decentralize cargo processing, improve logistics infrastructure, and support the growth of legitimate trade across Nigeria.
