The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, has dismissed recent claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the leadership of Oredo Local Government Council, describing them as misleading and an attempt to misinform the public.
In a statement released on Sunday, Tenebe clarified that the appointment of Dr. Osani Igbinigie as the Acting Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council was necessary to ensure the council’s smooth operation. He refuted PDP’s claim that Dr. Tom Obaseki remained the rightful chairman, stated that Obaseki’s tenure has been marked by controversy and non-compliance with legal directives.
“The assertion that the Edo State government’s actions constitute a constitutional crisis is a gross exaggeration. Dr. Tom Obaseki’s refusal to vacate office despite clear directives shows his disregard for the rule of law,” Tenebe said.
He further accused the PDP of engaging in “political grave-digging” by spreading falsehoods and attempting to discredit the government. According to him, the party’s refusal to accept election outcomes and their alleged resort to violence and intimidation are signs of desperation.
Tenebe urged the people of Edo State to see through the PDP’s alleged tactics and reject any attempt to destabilize the state.
“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our state remains a beacon of peace, progress, and prosperity,” he added.
The leadership tussle in Oredo Local Government Council has fueled political tensions in Edo State, with both parties trading accusations over the rightful occupant of the council’s top office.
