The Edo State Security Corps has successfully rescued the Onogie of Udo-Eguare community, His Royal Highness (HRH) Friday Ehizojie, brought relief to the community after four days of anxiety following his abduction.
The traditional ruler was kidnapped on Monday, February 3, 2025, alongside two others.
Commander of the Corps, Mr. Friday Ibadin, a retired Commissioner of Police, commended the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo for its unwavering support and for providing a conducive environment for security agencies to operate effectively. He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to ensuring the safety of residents in Edo State.
The successful rescue operation comes amidst speculation about Mr. Ibadin’s possible removal as the head of the Corps. However, he has now summoned a strategic meeting of all regional commanders to strengthen efforts against kidnapping, armed robbery, and other security threats in the state.
Ibadin, who has consistently assured Edo residents of his resolve to rid the state of criminal elements, emphasized that his team remains dedicated to making Edo State unsafe for criminals.
The rescue operation underscores the professionalism and effectiveness of the Corps, which recently conducted intensive security operations in Edo Central following complaints of rising cases of kidnapping and armed robbery in the senatorial district.
Following the successful rescue, the Corps handed the Onogie over to the Edo State Police Command for debriefing and further investigations to track down his captors, who remain at large.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, appreciated the Edo State Government for its logistical support, which she credited as a key factor in the success of security operations.
The Command also acknowledged the contributions of vigilance teams, local hunters, and well-meaning residents who have supported the fight against crime in the state.
