Worshippers at the Foursquare Gospel Church, Wuse District Headquarters, Abuja, were on Sunday urged to cultivate steadfast faith in God and remain confident in His help amid life’s uncertainties.
The service began with a vibrant praise and worship session led by the church choir, creating an atmosphere of reverence and spiritual expectation before the sermon.
Preaching on the topic, “The Reality of God’s Unfailing Help,” Rev. Adebayo Azeez anchored his message on Isaiah 41:10–15, where God repeatedly assures His people: “Fear not, for I am with you… I will strengthen you… I will help you… I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Rev. Azeez emphasised the importance of studying Scripture within its historical context. He explained that Isaiah ministered during a period of political instability, spiritual decline and foreign threats. Judah later experienced conquest and exile, while the people endured separation from their homeland, loss of freedom and pressure to assimilate into foreign culture.
It was within this atmosphere of fear, vulnerability and uncertainty that God declared His unfailing presence and covenant faithfulness.
He drew attention to God’s description of Israel as “thou worm Jacob” and His promise to transform the same weak people into “a new sharp threshing instrument.” According to him, the illustration reveals God’s ability to turn weakness into strength, insignificance into relevance and hopelessness into victory.
“Challenges are real, but the faithfulness of God is equally real,” he said, noting that unemployment, financial hardship, health concerns, family struggles and workplace difficulties continue to trouble many people.
He reminded the congregation that God had told Israel, “I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away,” stressing that divine election and covenant commitment remain stronger than temporary circumstances.
Citing 1 Corinthians 1:27–29, Rev. Azeez said God often chooses the weak, despised and overlooked to confound the strong and wise, so that no one may boast before Him. He also referenced 2 Corinthians 12:9, where God declares: “My grace is sufficient for thee, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”
Rev. Azeez further explained that divine help may come from unexpected sources. Drawing from the story of Naaman in 2 Kings 5, he recalled how a young Israelite servant girl became the channel through which the Syrian commander received healing.
“Help can come from anybody, anywhere and at any time,” he said, urging Christians to remain sensitive, humble and open-minded, and never to despise people because of their status, tribe or background.
He also challenged believers to become instruments of help to others, observing that God not only sends helpers but also uses willing people to answer the prayers of those in need.
According to him, God’s help is available in every area of life, including health, business, family, career, relationships and spiritual growth. He encouraged worshippers to present every concern to God, recalling the question in Jeremiah 32:27: “Is there anything too hard for Me?”
Rev. Azeez cautioned believers against losing faith when answers appear delayed. God’s timing, he said, may differ from human expectations, but His promises remain dependable.
He urged the congregation to keep serving, praying and trusting while waiting, noting that sustained faith eventually produces testimony.
Concluding with Psalm 46, he declared: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” He then led the church in prayers for divine intervention in families, careers, businesses, health and the nation, assuring worshippers that God does not abandon His own.
