The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has felicitated Muslim faithful across the country on the occasion of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, while directing enhanced security deployments nationwide to ensure peaceful and hitch-free festivities.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the IGP joined Nigerians in celebrating the occasion and prayed for peace, unity, and prosperity for the country.
Disu assured citizens that the Nigeria Police Force had put in place robust security measures across the nation to guarantee the safety of worshippers, travellers, and residents throughout the festive period.
According to the statement, Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders in all State Commands and the Federal Capital Territory have been directed to strengthen security deployments and intensify proactive policing operations.
The operational measures, the police said, include the strategic deployment of tactical teams, intelligence operatives, and conventional police personnel to Eid prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, critical national assets, and other public spaces.
The police hierarchy also ordered intensified visibility policing, coordinated patrols, stop-and-search operations, surveillance duties, and intelligence-led crime prevention strategies aimed at deterring criminal activities and protecting lives and property.
The IGP further directed officers to maintain swift response protocols in tackling any security threat that may arise during the celebrations.
While urging Nigerians to remain vigilant, Disu emphasised the importance of public cooperation in ensuring national security, noting that timely information from citizens could help prevent criminal incidents.
He advised members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons loitering around Eid prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, and public gatherings, as well as unattended bags, parcels, or vehicles left in unusual locations.
The IGP also urged citizens to report unusual movements, suspicious gatherings, or individuals believed to be conducting surveillance on security personnel or public facilities.
“Do not ignore suspicious activity. Do not assume someone else has already reported it. Your call is confidential and could prevent a tragedy,” the statement quoted the IGP as saying.
The Nigeria Police Force also released dedicated emergency contact lines for distress calls and security reports during the festive season.
Disu reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to public safety and national security, while wishing Muslim faithful a peaceful, joyous, and safe Eid-el-Adha celebration.
