El-Rufai’s Defection a Betrayal – APC Professionals …insist nothing is beyond resolution

The APC Professional Network, an umbrella body for professionals within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed disappointment over the defection of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, calling it a “massive betrayal.”

Despite El-Rufai’s sudden move to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the group insists that the matter is not beyond resolution and calls for unity within the party.

In a statement signed by its President General, Victor Walsh Oluwafemi, on Monday, the group acknowledged El-Rufai’s significant contributions to the APC but described his departure as unexpected and disappointing.

“Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has been a prominent figure in the APC, and his contributions to the party’s growth and governance objectives have been most significant.

“However, his decision to leave the party, coupled with the comments made during his interview, is both unexpected and disappointing. It raises concerns about the principles of party loyalty, consistency, and the commitment required to build a stronger APC.”

While recognizing his right to freedom of association, Oluwafemi emphasized that his defection has implications for party unity and integrity.

The APC Professional Network reaffirmed its commitment to the party’s core values and called on leaders at all levels to strengthen internal cohesion to prevent further defections.

“We must not allow this development to deter us from our collective goal of advancing the party’s agenda for a prosperous and united Nigeria.”

The group further urged APC members to remain calm, focused, and resolute, emphasizing that internal challenges should not deter the party from its long-term goals.

“We must not allow this development to distract us from our collective goal of building a prosperous and united Nigeria. The APC remains the most viable platform for national development, and we must all work together to strengthen it rather than allow divisions to weaken our ranks,” Oluwafemi stated.

The statement also called on APC leaders at all levels to address concerns that could lead to further defections, urging them to engage in constructive dialogue and reconciliation efforts to maintain party stability.

“Now, more than ever, the APC must demonstrate strong leadership, unity, and a commitment to addressing internal grievances. The party must ensure that its members feel heard, valued, and motivated to contribute to the party’s success,” the group added.

Reiterating their commitment to the party’s principles of good governance, accountability, and national development, the APC Professional Network assured members that they would continue to work towards strengthening the APC and ensuring it remains a formidable political force in Nigeria.

The group concluded by stating that while El-Rufai’s defection was a setback, it should serve as a wake-up call for the party to reinforce its internal structures, promote inclusiveness, and solidify its position ahead of future elections.
