The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has condemned the alleged sealing of the Falomo Mosque in Ikoyi, Lagos, by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA), describing the action as outrageous and provocative, especially coming less than 24 hours to the Eid-el-Kabir prayers.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, 26th May, 2026, MURIC claimed that the mosque was sealed by officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, a parastatal under the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
The group alleged that the timing of the action, taken on the eve of Eid celebrations, was insensitive and capable of creating religious tension in the state. It questioned the rationale behind sealing the mosque when preparations for the special prayers had already been concluded.
MURIC demanded the immediate unsealing of the mosque, insisting that all necessary approvals for its construction had reportedly been obtained. The group also called on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to urgently intervene in the matter to prevent any escalation.
According to the statement signed by Professor Ishaq Akintola, Founder and Executive Director of MURIC, the action was described as a potential trigger for religious discontent if not swiftly addressed.
The group further warned authorities to stay away from Falomo Mosque, insisting that the development could be misinterpreted by the Muslim community given the timing ahead of the Eid festivities.
