FCT Police arrests Naval officer for killing ex-Naval Chief’s son ….. Parades arrested 94 shi’ite members, others suspected criminals

FCT Police Command has arrested Master Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, an officer of the Nigerian Navy who was apprehended for the killing of Aminu, the son of former Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim (retd).

 

The arrest was disclosed by the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Bennet Igweh during a press briefing while parading the suspect on Wednesday.

 

He said Muhammad killed Aminu and stole his car two weeks ago. Though, Police Commissioner confirmed that the car had been recovered.

CP Igweh said, “About two weeks ago, Aminu Ibrahim, the son of Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim (retd), a former Chief of Naval Staff, was robbed and killed in the Maitama area of Abuja, and his Prado SUV was taken. I want to inform you that Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, a serving Nigerian Navy personnel, committed the murder. He has confessed to the crime, and we have recovered the Prado Jeep.”

 

Speaking with newsmen, the suspect, Muhammad said he is a seaman in the Navy deployed to the former Chief of Naval Staff’s residence.

 

He said, “I work at the house. He wanted to go out at night, around 11:30. He said he needed security.

 

“So, I followed him with my gun. Along the way, he stopped to check his ATM, as if he was going to buy something.

 

“I thought maybe I was going to escort him to a market or somewhere. Then, when I came out through the other door, I shot him, took the car, and left. I’m a guard and a seaman in the Navy. He did not do anything to me; I killed him to steal his car.”

Also, at the briefing the command paraded 94 members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria(IMN), who were arrested following the death of two police officers on Sunday 25th August,2024.

 

Six (6) Police personnel drafted from various divisions and posted to Wuse market junction came under sudden and unprovoked attack by IMN members. The six (6) police officers attacked by the suspects wielding dane-guns, machetes, IEDs and stones, were rushed to Muhammadu Buhari Police Hospital where ASP Innocent Agabi and Inspector Alex Odeh were confirmed dead by medical doctors on duty while four (4) other officers are on admission and in critical condition. Members of the Sect also set ablaze three (3) patrol vehicles and damaged one other. Interrogations are ongoing and suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.

 

Also paraded were twin brothers; Obike David and Obike Stanley who specialize in ATM card theft. They execute their plans by claiming to assist unsuspecting persons who seem new to the operation of ATM machines. While at it, they swapped their ATM cards and proceed to withdraw money from the accounts of their victims. During interrogation, they freely confessed to the crime and will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the FCT Police Commissioner, CP Benneth Igweh has reassured members of the public of the Commands commitment to defeat crime in all its forms in the Federal Capital Territory.
