Nearly a year after it was vandalised and looted, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has officially commissioned the fully restored and re-equipped Digital Industrial Park (DIP) in Kano State.
The commissioning ceremony was led by the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, alongside the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, and the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Aminu Gwarzo, who represented the Executive Governor.
Originally scheduled for launch on August 1, 2024, the park was set back by an unfortunate episode of looting and destruction. Eleven months later, the rebirth of the facility symbolizes resilience and a renewed national commitment to innovation, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In his remarks, Dr. Aminu Maida noted that the restoration of the facility demonstrated the NCC’s unwavering dedication to building infrastructure that supports Nigeria’s digital transformation.
“This park represents more than just a physical space it is a symbol of our collective resolve to ensure that Nigeria becomes a hub for technological innovation and inclusive digital growth,” Dr. Maida said. “We are particularly proud that the facility is now equipped with next-generation infrastructure, tailored to support startups, creators, and entrepreneurs across Northern Nigeria.”
Also speaking at the event, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani commended the private sector partners and stakeholders who contributed to the full restoration of the park and reiterated the government’s resolve to create an enabling environment for ICT-driven development.
Equipped with high-speed connectivity, state-of-the-art systems, and collaborative workspaces, the park is set to empower users with the tools needed to develop digital solutions and drive job creation.
The facility is expected to serve as a key enabler of Nigeria’s digital economy aspirations, strengthening research capacity, building local content, and supporting the country’s youth in scaling the global innovation value chain.
