FCT Police Command has denied a news report making the rounds over the alleged arrest and detention of Daniel Tyokua, a reporter with Authority Newspaper, earlier today, June 26, 2024.by FCT police operatives.
The command in a statement signed by SP Josephine Adeh, FCT PPRO stated that Daniel Tyokua was not arrested or detained as alleged but only invited over a petition written by his own community (Tiv) against him concerning an alleged false publication he made on the emergence of one Mr. Andrew Akuma as the new Ter (Leader)of Tiv people in Abuja Municipal Area Council, which they claimed could cause a crisis in the Tiv community.
SP Adeh also added that the police operatives of the command did not request nor collect a dime from the reporter, as alleged.
She said the journalist was asked to go, as the other party was not on the ground for the scheduled interview and interrogation by the police operatives.
“Consequent to the above, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, cautions against the peddling of false information that may damage the image of the police. He therefore calls for verification and evaluation of all received information, as misinformation could prove dangerous to the populace”Adeh said.
