The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has announced a restriction of movement across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the Area Council Elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026, as part of measures to ensure a secure and orderly electoral process.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the restriction will be enforced from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. across the territory on election day.
According to Adeh, the Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, approved the directive to enable security agencies effectively safeguard voters, election officials, and sensitive materials, while preventing any security breaches during the polls.
She explained that the restriction applied to all residents except essential service providers, accredited election officials, and other authorised personnel on election duty.
The Command urged residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and cooperate with security operatives deployed across the FCT, adding that members of the public should promptly report suspicious movements or activities through its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
The police reassured residents of their commitment to protecting lives and property before, during, and after the elections, while calling on all stakeholders to support efforts aimed at ensuring a free, fair, and credible exercise.
