Easter: Defence Chief Oluyede Urges Unity, Vigilance, Honours Fallen Heroes

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa Oluyede, has extended warm Easter greetings to Christian faithful and personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, urged renewed commitment to unity, vigilance and national service.

In his Easter goodwill message marking the 2026 celebration, General Oluyede described the season as a sacred period symbolising sacrifice, courage, hope and the triumph of good over evil values he said aligned closely with the duties of military personnel.

He noted that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ exemplify selflessness, courage and dedication to a higher cause, virtues he said are reflected daily in the sacrifices of officers and men of the Armed Forces in safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and protecting its citizens.

The Defence Chief paid glowing tribute to fallen heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty, stating that their bravery and patriotism remain indelible in the nation’s history. He also commended wounded personnel and troops currently deployed across various operational theatres for their resilience and unwavering dedication.

General Oluyede further emphasised the importance of unity, faith and renewed hope, calling on military personnel to remain steadfast and professional in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities. He stressed that collaboration with other security agencies and communities is critical to overcoming the country’s security challenges.

He also expressed appreciation to the families of military personnel, especially those whose loved ones are on active deployment during the festive period, acknowledging their sacrifices and support as vital to operational success.

The Defence Chief urged Nigerians to embrace a “whole-of-society” approach in the fight against terrorism, noting that collective effort, courage and faith are essential to achieving lasting peace and stability.

He wished members of the Armed Forces, their families and all Nigerians a peaceful and blessed Easter celebration.
