Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has resigned from his position as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with immediate effect. The party officially announced his resignation on Friday, citing his desire to attend to “urgent and important personal matters.”
In a letter addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Ganduje expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve at the helm of the ruling party.
Following the development, President Tinubu has directed the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, to assume office as Acting National Chairman pending a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC), which is expected to be convened soon to fill the vacant position.
Ganduje, who took over leadership of the APC in August 2023 after the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, was commended for his efforts in promoting party unity and democratic values. The party noted that his leadership contributed significantly to recent political gains, including key defections from opposition parties and successful legal defenses of party leadership.
“The confidence placed in him by the Party’s NEC and National Caucus meetings in February 2025 was a profound recognition and honour for his service,” the statement signed by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, read in part.
The NWC expressed gratitude to Ganduje for his “invaluable contributions and distinguished record of service” and wished him good health and continued success.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, assured members and Nigerians of its resolve to ensure good governance and party stability despite the leadership change.
