Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has signed into law a bill for the establishment of the Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology, a development expected to drive educational growth and generate employment opportunities in the state.
The bill, which was passed by the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), was signed at the Governor’s office in Government House, Benin City. Governor Okpebholo described the new law as a major step toward boosting healthcare education and regional development, particularly in Udomi and surrounding communities in Uwessan, Esan Central Local Government Area.
“I am most grateful for the kind of cooperation I’m receiving from the legislative arm. This bill is a dream come true for the Udomi Community, which has long advocated for such a development,” the Governor said.
He lauded the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government, noting that such collaboration is essential for delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Edo State.
According to the Governor, the new institution will not only enhance access to professional health education but also attract investments and improve infrastructure in the host communities.
The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, who led other lawmakers to witness the signing ceremony, commended Governor Okpebholo for his focus on people-oriented development.
“The bill is a laudable one. It will lead to rapid development in Udomi and Uwessan, and by extension, across Esan Central and the entire state,” the Speaker said, citing constitutional provisions backing the process.
The law, titled Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology Law, Udomi, 2025, also included provisions for related matters that will ensure the smooth establishment and operation of the institution.
