The Association of Ondo Media Practitioners (AOMP) has conferred the prestigious title of Grand Patron on Hon. Ifeoluwa Babajide Ehindero, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the growth and welfare of journalists from Ondo State and across Nigeria.
The conferment took place in Abuja during AOMP’s annual end-of-year corporate event themed “Ondo State Economic Development: Role of Media.” The occasion celebrated Hon. Ehindero’s efforts while highlighting the importance of health, welfare, and education in the media industry.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Ehindero expressed heartfelt gratitude for the honor and used the platform to stress the significance of health and well-being among journalists.
“Our media practitioners are indispensable to the progress of our society, but we must remember that health is wealth. I encourage you to take regular breaks, undergo routine medical check-ups, and adopt practices that promote both mental and physical well-being,” Hon. Ehindero remarked.
He lamented that many journalists, due to the demanding nature of their work, often neglect their health, and called for increased awareness about physical and mental self-care.
A deeply touching moment during the event was Hon. Ehindero’s announcement of an educational scholarship for the daughter of the late journalist Mr. John Olasunkanmi Oba, a committed member of AOMP who passed away prematurely.
“This scholarship is a tribute to the legacy of Mr. John Oba, a man who gave so much to the media industry. I hope that his daughter will achieve her dreams and carry forward the values he stood for,” Hon. Ehindero stated, receiving a standing ovation.
Confirming this, AOMP Chairman, Mr. Timothy Sola Akingboye, noted that since the passing of Mr. Oba, Hon. Ehindero had stepped in to support the late journalist’s daughter, ensuring her continued education through the scholarship initiative.
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, represented by Chief Obinna Nwaka, praised Hon. Ehindero’s dedication to the welfare of journalists and his proactive advocacy for their health.
“Hon. Ifeoluwa Babajide’s conferment as Grand Patron is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the growth and development of the media industry. His advocacy for health awareness among journalists resonates with the Ministry’s efforts to promote a healthier and more productive society,” the Minister said.
AOMP President, Mr. Timothy Sola Akingboye, echoed these sentiments, urging collective action to safeguard the health and welfare of media practitioners.
The event also recognized other distinguished Ondo State indigenes, including Grace Ike, the newly elected NUJ Chairman, who received an AOMP Excellence Award for her contributions to journalism.
