Oyo Grand Chief Imam Congratulates New Ilorin Chief Imam, Seeks United Front Against Insecurity

The Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Land, Sheikh Al-Imam Barrister Bilal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, has congratulated Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani on his appointment as the new Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate, urging religious leaders across the country to strengthen collaboration in tackling insecurity and promoting national unity.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Grand Chief Imam described the appointment by the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, as well-deserved, noting that Sheikh Dasuki’s emergence reflected his vast Islamic knowledge, dedication to the faith, and longstanding service to the Muslim community.

He rejoiced with the Emir of Ilorin, the Muslim Ummah in Ilorin Emirate, Kwara State, and the wider Nigerian Muslim community, expressing confidence that the new Chief Imam would provide exemplary spiritual leadership.

According to the statement, Sheikh Dasuki possesses a rich academic and spiritual background, having made significant contributions to Islamic education, Da’wah, and community development over the years.

The Oyo Islamic leader prayed for Allah’s guidance, wisdom, good health, and strength for the new Chief Imam as he assumes the revered position.

Addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, violent extremism, and other criminal activities, Sheikh Akeugberu stressed that religious leaders have a critical role to play in complementing government efforts to foster peace, justice, and social harmony.

He called for stronger cooperation among Imams, Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, community leaders, and government institutions to combat insecurity and social vices, emphasizing that mosques and religious centres must continue to promote moral values, peaceful coexistence, and authentic Islamic teachings that reject violence and extremism.

The Grand Chief Imam further expressed readiness to work closely with the new Chief Imam of Ilorin and other Islamic leaders nationwide to advance the cause of Islam, strengthen inter-community relations, promote national cohesion, and support lawful initiatives aimed at improving security and the welfare of Nigerians.

He concluded by praying for a successful and impactful tenure for Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani, asking Allah to bless his leadership with barakah and lasting achievements.
