The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered strengthened security measures and intensified intelligence-led operations following the terrorist attack along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, which claimed the lives of 10 police officers and other civilians.
In furtherance of the directive, the IGP on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, deployed a delegation led by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada, to Kebbi State to engage with the state government and other stakeholders on the security situation and reinforce measures to prevent further attacks.
The delegation conveyed the IGP’s deep concern over the loss of the officers and civilians, reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to bringing those responsible for the attack to justice.
IGP Disu directed that all available operational and intelligence resources be deployed to identify, track and apprehend the perpetrators, while security measures are intensified to protect vulnerable communities and restore lasting peace in the affected areas.
The Police leadership also reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of the families of the fallen officers, assuring that the bereaved families would continue to receive necessary support in line with the Force’s welfare policies.
Speaking during the engagement, Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, commended the Nigeria Police Force for the courage and sacrifice of its personnel and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the Police and other security agencies in confronting terrorists and other criminal elements operating in the state.
Idris assured the delegation of sustained collaboration with security agencies, particularly through strengthened intelligence sharing, operational support and efforts to prevent criminal elements from establishing or maintaining safe havens in the state.
The IGP appreciated the Kebbi State Government for its continued partnership and support, stressing that the Police would intensify coordinated operations against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.
The Force also pledged to work closely with the Kebbi State Government, sister security agencies and local communities to safeguard lives and property in Kebbi State and other parts of the country.
The Nigeria Police Force honoured the memory of the fallen officers and expressed solidarity with their families, assuring the public that every effort would be made to bring the perpetrators of the heinous attack to justice.
