The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday, 21st April 2026, paid a strategic courtesy visit to the Headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Abuja, in a renewed push to strengthen inter-agency cooperation within Nigeria’s criminal justice system.
During the visit, the IGP underscored the need for deeper collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Correctional Service, particularly in the areas of intelligence sharing, custodial security management, and seamless coordination in criminal justice administration.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid,the IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening institutional synergy aimed at improving investigative outcomes, reducing delays in prosecution processes, and supporting ongoing reforms within the correctional system.
In his response, the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, CG Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, commended the Inspector-General for the visit, describing it as historic, as he is the first serving IGP to officially visit the Service Headquarters. He said the development reflects a strong commitment to inter-agency cooperation and broader criminal justice reform.
The Controller-General emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration between both agencies, particularly in intelligence sharing and custodial security operations. He also advocated for enhanced joint training programmes to boost operational efficiency, professionalism, and coordination within the justice sector.
The visit was described by both agencies as a step forward in strengthening institutional ties and improving the effectiveness of Nigeria’s criminal justice system.
