The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has presented a total of ₦2.435 billion in cheques to 1,075 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased police officers under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes. The ceremony took place today at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The payments covered policy years 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023, 2024/2025, and 2025/2026, including outstanding insurance claims from previous years.
In her remarks, Force Insurance Officer ACP Lydia Ameh highlighted that the disbursement demonstrates IGP Disu’s determination to prioritize the welfare of officers and their families. She emphasized that decisive measures have been taken to ensure compliance by insurance providers and prevent delays in claims settlements, reaffirming the Force Insurance Unit’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and accountability.
Addressing the beneficiaries, IGP Disu described the ceremony as a solemn recognition of the sacrifices made by officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. He stressed that the presentation extends beyond financial support, symbolizing the Force’s enduring obligation to honour the courage and commitment of its fallen heroes while supporting their families.
IGP Disu also assured that efforts will be intensified to strengthen welfare frameworks, improve administrative efficiency, and leverage technology to enhance transparency and streamline claims processing.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to the welfare of personnel and the families of fallen officers, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to national peace, security, and stability.
