The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Monday, June 16, 2025, paid a condolence visit to Benue State following recent violent attacks in the state that claimed the lives of several residents.
Accompanied by top-ranking officers, including the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Yakubu Kwazhi, and DIG Adebola Ayinde Hamzat of the Department of Logistics & Supply, the IGP visited the Benue State Government House where he was received by Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia.
While commiserating with the Governor, the IGP condemned the attacks, describing them as “senseless and acts of terrorism.” He reassured the Governor and people of the state of the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
In further solidarity, the IGP also visited Yelwata Community in Guma Local Government Area one of the affected communities where he assessed the level of destruction and interacted with community leaders alongside the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
To strengthen the security architecture in the state, the IGP ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical teams and assets. He directed DIG Yakubu Kwazhi to take charge of the operations and oversee efforts aimed at restoring normalcy.
The Police Chief also addressed officers and men of the Benue State Command at the Command Headquarters in Makurdi. He assured them of enhanced welfare and logistical support, emphasizing the Force’s resolve to protect lives and property in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s security agenda.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to delivering justice and restoring peace to all affected communities in Benue and across the country.
