Senator Rufai Hanga, representing Kano Central Senatorial District and a chieftain of the Nigeria National Peoples Party (NNPP), has revealed that his passion for helping the less privileged stems from his family background, beyond political considerations.
Speaking on his philanthropic activities outside politics, Senator Hanga disclosed that long before joining politics, he established a viable foundation that continues to provide succour to the masses. He emphasized that his generosity is a family tradition, as he regularly support people privately without seeking political gain.
He explained that his strategy is to reach out to those in society without political affiliations, believing that when the time comes, such people will naturally seek out and support him for his good deeds.
Using Kano as an example, Senator Hanga noted that out of the estimated 25-27 million population, less than a million people are registered members of any political party. However, during elections, over five million people vote – many of whom have no political affiliations but respond to goodwill and genuine support.
He attributed his record-breaking 548,000 votes – the highest for any senator in the country – during the election that brought him to the Senate to his consistent support for the masses.
On the possibility of political realignment, Senator Hanga expressed unwavering loyalty to his leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. He stated that if Kwankwaso decided to switch political parties, he would have no option but to follow him.
