The Armed Forces of Nigeria have intensified crackdown on terrorism, insurgency, and criminal activities, achieving significant victories in various military operations across the country.
Major General Markus Kangye, Director, Defence Media Operations (DMO), disclosed in a statement that between February 5 and March 13, 2025, troops neutralized 74 terrorists, arrested 130 suspected criminals, and rescued 61 kidnapped victims in different regions. Additionally, 31 oil thieves were apprehended, while numerous illegal refining sites and criminal hideouts were dismantled.
In the Northeast, sustained military operations led to the surrender of 143 terrorists, including 66 women and 72 children, while several Boko Haram and ISWAP commanders were eliminated in targeted strikes. Security forces also intercepted terrorist collaborators smuggling Starlink WiFi devices and cash in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa States.
In the Northwest, joint operations in Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kebbi States resulted in the elimination of 18 terrorists, the rescue of 12 hostages, and the recovery of AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and motorcycles used for criminal activities. Coordinated airstrikes in Katsina State destroyed terrorist hideouts, dealing a major blow to their operations.
In the North Central region, military offensives in Plateau, Kaduna, and Benue States led to the neutralization of six extremists, the arrest of 11 criminals, and the rescue of 22 kidnapped victims. A notorious gunrunner, Blessed Paul, was also arrested in Kaduna with an AK-47 rifle and N1.5 million in cash.
Troops also intensified the fight against oil theft in the South-South, foiled crude oil theft worth over N1 billion and recovered 675,266 litres of stolen crude oil. 31 suspected oil thieves were arrested, and 56 illegal refining sites were destroyed in a decisive effort to curb economic sabotage.
General Kangye reaffirmed the Nigerian military’s commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorists, insurgents, and criminal elements across the country. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces by providing timely intelligence to ensure continued success in the fight against insecurity.
