Television Continental (TVC) has unveiled a state-of-the-art facility at Eko Atlantic City, Lagos, marking a major comeback four years after its Ketu-Ikosi headquarters was destroyed during the #EndSARS protests. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has commended this milestone, praising TVC’s resilience and dedication to press freedom.
In a statement released on Thursday, 9th January 2025, MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, congratulated TVC, describing the new location as a triumph over adversity. He highlighted the significance of the media in sustaining democracy and condemned all forms of violence against journalists and media houses.
“The opening of TVC’s new facility, with its advanced digital studios, symbolizes victory over those who attempted to suppress the truth. We commend the courage and perseverance of the TVC team,” Akintola stated.
The #EndSARS protests in 2020, which led to the destruction of TVC’s former headquarters, were a turning point for the media house. The attack drew widespread condemnation, and TVC’s recovery journey has been seen as a testament to its resilience.
MURIC’s statement emphasized the importance of protecting media institutions, urging the youth to reject violence and embrace dialogue as a means of expressing grievances.
TVC’s new facility, considered one of the most advanced in sub-Saharan Africa, represents a significant boost to Nigeria’s media landscape, promised enhanced broadcasting capabilities and a renewed commitment to delivering quality journalism.
