The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a Nigerian pilgrim, Mallama Aishatu Muhammadu, from Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, who died in Saudi Arabia during the 2026 Hajj exercise.
Mallama Aishatu, aged 73, reportedly suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on Friday, 9 May 2026, while travelling from Jeddah to the holy city of Madinah.
In a condolence message issued by the Commission, the Chairman of NAHCON, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, conveyed the sympathy of the Federal Government to the deceased’s family.
Ambassador Yusuf personally spoke with the deceased’s brother, Umaru Jauro Koko, via telephone, prayed that Almighty Allah grant Mallama Aishatu eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus and give the family the strength to bear the loss.
He also assured the family that the government would facilitate the safe return of the deceased’s personal belongings, including her Basic Travel Allowance (BTA) and death certificate, through the Adamawa State Pilgrims Welfare Commission.
The late pilgrim is survived by children, grandchildren and a great-grandchild. One of her children, Abdullahi Bello, serve as Divisional Officer of the Ganye Division of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
NAHCON management described the incident as a painful loss and prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased.
