The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has stepped up activities ahead of the 2026 National Police Day with a community engagement exercise in Lugbe, Abuja, aimed at strengthening ties between residents and security agencies.
The outreach, held on April 1, 2026, was led by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, alongside a delegation from the Force Headquarters headed by the Chairman of the National Planning Committee for the 2026 National Police Day, AIG Akor Gabriel Benedict. The event brought together community leaders, youths, and other key stakeholders in an interactive forum.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts by the Command to promote community policing and build trust through dialogue, cooperation, and shared responsibility in addressing security challenges.
Speaking during the session, AIG Akor Gabriel Benedict stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding among residents. He called on members of the community to support law enforcement efforts and contribute meaningfully to sustaining peace and order within their locality.
In his remarks, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi warned against the dangers of electoral violence, particularly as political activities continue across the country. He cautioned youths against allowing themselves to be used by non-state actors to perpetrate violence, noting that such actions could have far-reaching consequences for individuals and society.
The Commissioner also emphasised the need for responsible road use, urging motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and avoid driving under the influence of intoxicants. He noted that many road accidents are preventable and often result from negligence.
Community members, in their responses, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. They expressed appreciation to the Police for engaging directly with residents and pledged continued cooperation with security agencies.
