Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Communications (IIC).
The IIC is a globally renowned organization focused on promoting innovation and policy development in the telecommunications and media industries. Dr. Maida’s appointment underscores his contributions to the telecommunications sector, both in Nigeria and internationally.
Under Dr. Maida’s leadership, Nigeria’s telecommunications industry has undergone significant transformation. His tenure at the NCC has been marked by enhanced connectivity, innovative solutions, and the creation of a competitive and inclusive telecom environment.
In his new role on the IIC board, Dr. Maida is expected to share his expertise to influence global policies that drive growth and innovation in telecommunications and media.
Dr. Maida’s illustrious career includes roles with top-tier organizations such as British Telecom, Cisco Systems, and EE Ltd. He was also part of the engineering team at UbiquiSys Ltd., a small-cell technology company acquired by Cisco Systems. Before his appointment at the NCC, he served as the Executive Director of Technology and Operations at Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement Systems PLC (NIBSS), where he played a pivotal role in modernizing the nation’s digital payments infrastructure.
A distinguished academic, Dr. Maida holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath, an MEng in Information Systems Engineering from Imperial College London, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship from Cambridge Judge Business School.
His appointment to the IIC board is seen as a major milestone, not only for Dr. Maida but also for Nigeria’s position on the global telecommunications stage. It is expected to strengthen international collaboration and foster innovation within the telecom and media sectors worldwide.
