Nigeria Hails Jimoh Ibrahim’s Election to Key UN Budget Committee Chairmanship

Nigeria has congratulated Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim on his election as Chairman of the United Nations Budget and Administration Committee, describing the development as a strong endorsement of the country’s growing influence and active participation in multilateral affairs.

The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, in a statement issued on Thursday by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said Ibrahim’s emergence reflects the confidence reposed in Nigeria by the international community to contribute meaningfully to the effective management and administration of the United Nations.
According to the minister, the election is a significant achievement for both Ambassador Ibrahim and Nigeria, underscoring the country’s longstanding commitment to multilateralism, international cooperation and constructive engagement in global governance.

The Federal Government welcomed the development, noting that it represents international recognition of Nigeria’s contributions to advancing collective global interests through diplomacy and responsible leadership within international institutions.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at enhancing the efficiency, transparency, accountability and effectiveness of the United Nations system, while pledging continued collaboration with member states in pursuit of shared global objectives.
She expressed confidence that Ambassador Ibrahim would deploy his extensive expertise and distinguished record of service in steering the affairs of the committee and wished him a successful tenure as chairman.

The minister further reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to working closely with the United Nations and its member states to advance peace, sustainable development and international cooperation.
