The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the sudden death of its Cross River State Commander, Chief Narcotics Officer (CN) Ogbonna Maurice Uzoma.
The development was made known to the Chairman/Chief Executive of the Agency, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), while he was in Maiduguri, Borno State, attending a retreat for heads of agencies organized by the Federal Ministry of Justice.
The late Commander, who only assumed duty on 18th August 2025, was found lifeless in his hotel room in Calabar on Thursday, 18th September, after colleagues raised concerns when he failed to show up for scheduled engagements.
According to reports, attempts to reach him via calls and knocks on his door proved abortive. Hotel staff later gained entry through the ceiling aperture and discovered his lifeless body. The Cross River State Commissioner of Police personally visited the scene, and investigations into the cause of death are ongoing.
To support police efforts, Marwa directed the Zonal Commander, Zone 14 NDLEA Command, ACGN Mathew Ewah, to relocate to Calabar.
While commiserating with the bereaved family, Marwa said the entire Agency shared in their grief and prayed for God’s comfort and eternal rest for the departed officer.
