President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned a newly constructed Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’ office complex of the Nigeria Customs Service in Iperu, Ogun State, marking a significant milestone in the agency’s expansion and reform agenda.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Saturday, April 4, 2026, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, said the project reflects the Service’s commitment to strengthening its core mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and enforcement, while also improving the welfare and working conditions of its personnel.
He explained that the relocation from Ikeja, Lagos, was necessitated by increasing operational demands and limited space at existing facilities. According to him, the new complex is fully equipped and ready for occupation.
“We’ve just commissioned the Federal Operations Unit; they will be moving here as soon as possible. It’s already been furnished, with all accessories required for optimal operations installed. The facility also includes a modern armoury and a warehouse directly opposite, which will complement the one at the nearby aviation village,” Adeniyi stated.
The Customs boss commended the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, for his support in facilitating the relocation project. He also acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor, Hameed Ali, described his role as foundational to the project’s actualisation.
On funding, Adeniyi disclosed that the project was initially valued at ₦73 billion, but noted that prevailing economic realities may require a review of the approved cost.
He further revealed that the Service has already commenced operations at the nearby cargo airport commissioned the same day, with officers actively involved in terminal activities, including cargo handling and tallying during the offloading of the first shipment witnessed by the President.
The expansive facility is expected to house approximately 142 buildings, including a training college, multipurpose halls, and a sports complex features designed to support the long-term modernisation and institutional growth of the Nigeria Customs Service.
