The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its nationwide offensive against drug cartels with the arrest of two major drug kingpins in Lagos, interception of consignments meant for bandits and terrorists in the North-East, and destruction of over 24,000 kilograms of cannabis farms in Edo State.
According to the Agency, operatives of its Special Operations Unit (SOU) arrested 64-year-old Victor Nwosa and 49-year-old Felix Chika Obiegbu after weeks of surveillance exposed their criminal drug networks. Nwosa, who posed as a textile merchant, was picked up on Wednesday, 17th September 2025, at his Okota residence where 4.33kg of heroin and 448 grams of cocaine were recovered. Obiegbu, who front as a wine distributor, was arrested earlier on Thursday, 11th September at his Surulere residence where 2.9kg of methamphetamine was seized.
In the North-East, NDLEA thwarted attempts to supply drugs to terrorists and bandits. In Borno, operatives arrested 26-year-old Baba Kaka Ibrahim along Damaturu road on Saturday, 27th September, recovered 39,380 pills of tramadol and exol-5 hidden in a Mercedes Benz GLK. On the same day in Yobe, Halima Adamu was intercepted with 39 parcels of Colorado weighing 1.4kg concealed in a travelling bag. A follow-up operation led to the arrest of another woman, Habiba Muhammad, in Maiduguri.
The anti-narcotics agency also recorded major seizures in Kano, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Kaduna, Gombe, Lagos, Abuja and Edo. In these separate operations, thousands of opioid pills, skunk, and methamphetamine were recovered, while suspects directly linked to the consignments were taken into custody. Notably, in Edo State, over 24,146kg of cannabis plantations were destroyed in Uromi and Ogu forests, and a truckload of 1,025kg of skunk was intercepted on the Wareke–Auchi road.
NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers for their resilience, noted that every gram of drugs seized strengthen national security and protect Nigerian youths. He urged operatives nationwide to sustain the Agency’s balanced approach combining law enforcement with its ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy across schools, communities, workplaces, and religious centres.
