The National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr. Vincent Olatunji, has called for stronger public-private partnerships to accelerate sustainable infrastructure development and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy.
Dr. Olatunji made the call while delivering a goodwill message at the Nigeria Infrastructure Conference (INFRACON 2026), organised by the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA).
Speaking on the conference theme, “Mobilising Private Capital for Sustainable Infrastructure Development in Nigeria,” the NDPC boss stressed that sustainable infrastructure development requires collective action from both the public and private sectors.
He noted that every stakeholder in Nigeria’s economy has a critical role to play and urged greater private sector investment in infrastructure that would promote economic growth and national development.
Highlighting the Commission’s collaboration with NACCIMA, Dr. Olatunji disclosed that the NDPC recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the association to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem by ensuring the protection of the personal data of Nigerians and legal residents.
According to him, the partnership reflects the Commission’s commitment to fostering trust in the country’s digital environment while promoting responsible data governance.
Dr. Olatunji further stated that the NDPC has earned recognition as one of the world’s most progressive Data Protection Authorities (DPAs) due to its innovative approach to data governance.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s determination to make Nigeria a safe destination for digital business and investment, noting that robust data protection remains a key enabler for attracting foreign direct investment in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The conference attracted top government officials and industry leaders, including the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole; Chairman of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman; former Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi; and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, among other dignitaries.
