Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old man, Nda Baba Mohammed of Agaie Local Government Area, for being in possession of suspected counterfeit CFA currency at the Hajj Camp, Tudun-Fulani, Bosso area of Minna.
The arrest, which took place on May 18, 2025, at about 11:45 a.m., followed credible intelligence indicating the activities of a syndicate allegedly specialising in duping unsuspecting Hajj pilgrims with fake foreign currency.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Bosso Division and found in possession of forty thousand CFA francs suspected to be counterfeit.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having stolen the currency from the residence of a certain Mohammed in Kwara State while working for him as a farmhand.
SP Abiodun disclosed that the suspect is in custody as investigations continue to trace the origin of the counterfeit currency. He added that the suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police command reaffirmed commitment to ensuring a peaceful Hajj operation and warned criminal elements to stay away from all pilgrimage-related activities in the state.
