NIGER TO PARTNER NIS TO CHECKMATE IRREGULAR IMMIGRANTS

Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani-Bello in an attempt to checkmate influx of irregular immigrants and the attendant security challenges has said his administration will partner with the Nigeria Immigaration Service, NIS to secure the vast international border lines of the state.

He stated this when he played host of the state’s new Comptroller of Immigration Mrs Amadih Honby in his office in Minna, the state capital.

The Governor who noted that there were reports of influx of irregular immigrants into the country, called on the Immigration Service to ensure that tight security is accorded to the boarders to avoid further influx of immigrants.

“Let me first of all commend you for the good job you are doing especially in the state and the country at large. You have a very wide boarder to manage starting from Gundu, Babana and our boarders with Kebbi and Zamfara states which makes it wider to Niger Republic. We have a lot of entry points into the state which allows people to access the state from so many places.

I assure you of our support just as we are supporting other security agencies and Federal Government agencies in the state “.

“I have received reports on the influx of irregular immigrants into the state and most of them are coming from Niger Republic. We must find sustainable solution to this problem “.

” I assure you of our continuous support so that you can function very well.”

He urged the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to intensify surveillance of border areas in order to checkmate irregular migration in and out of the state.

The Governor who said the idea would go a long way in addressing security challenges in the state also said it will halt irregular migration by citizens of other countries that share boarder with the state.

He however assured the Nigeria Immigration Service as well as other Federal Government agencies in the state of the state government support in ensuring that the carryout their duties and obligations.

In her remarks, the new Comptroller of Immigration, Mrs Amadih Honby who assumed office on February 6th commended Governor Abubakar Sani Bello for his commitment and support so far towards ensuring that the agency function well in the state and also promised to do her best throughout her tenure in the state.
