As Nigeria marks its 60th birthday signifying diamond jubilee, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger
State said despite all the challenges confronting the country, it is worth celebrating Nigeria at 60.
In a statement signed by the his Chief Press Secretary Mary Noel-Berje, the Governor who noted that the Country should have made progress on certain areas of the economy especially industrialization, hoped a new chapter and phase will be opened towards revitalizing the nation’s economy and ensuring that investments is made for the future of the younger generation.
“At 60 I hope we are able to tell ourselves the bitter truth. We all know what is right and wrong but we don’t have the courage to confront it.
The way out is simple. What we need to do is to ensure that all our dead industries are resuscitated”
The value chain of the industries alone will give millions of Nigerians jobs”, he said.
The Governor also re-iterated his desire to see a changed Niger state, saying that “I want to see continuity regardless of the party,
Continuity is for the benefit of our people we have to make sure that the system works efficiently ,of course there is need for new projects but there is also need to have a robust maintenance culture to ensure that everything is working perfectly”.
“We have to ensure that investment made 40 years ago in Niger state by our predecessors don’t die in vain, we have to ensure that they are very functional.”
He said the theme for the Independence Day celebration for this year; ‘Togetherness is apt as the need for the people to be United in the country is now more than ever before needed.
“So Nigeria at 60 and Niger state over four decades we have to ensure that we unite together and look critically at what affects us as a state and as a people and confront it. We have to cleanse our conscience and take responsibilities.
I sincerely hope that we will be each other’s keeper and considerate in our decisions hence governance is a collective responsibility” ,he added.
The Governor then prayed for a more United, harmonious and secured nation and Niger state in Particular.
