Nigeria and Algeria have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening diplomatic relations following a high-level meeting between Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and his Algerian counterpart, His Excellency Ahmed Attaf, in Algiers.
The two Ministers exchanged views on a range of shared strategic interests and agreed to intensify cooperation across political, economic, and multilateral platforms. They also emphasized the need to revitalize the Nigeria-Algeria Binational Commission and enhance regional coordination, particularly in promoting Africa’s priorities on the international stage.
In a related development, Minister Tuggar led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new Chancery building for the Nigerian Embassy in Algiers. The ceremony took place at Dely Ibrahim, the diplomatic district of the Algerian capital, and was attended by senior Algerian officials, embassy staff, and members of the Nigerian community.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Tuggar said the new Chancery represented a significant investment in modernizing Nigeria’s foreign missions and improving the country’s global diplomatic footprint. He noted that the building will incorporate environmentally sustainable designs, advanced security systems, and upgraded facilities to enhance consular services and provide a more conducive working environment for staff.
Construction of the Chancery is set to begin immediately and is projected to be completed within 18 months. The project forms part of the Ministry’s broader reform agenda aimed at promoting Nigeria’s image abroad and fostering stronger international partnerships.
