The House of Representatives Committee on Nigeria-Bulgaria has hailed the strong and cordial trade relations between Nigeria and Bulgaria, marking a significant moment with the farewell of Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Yanko Yordanov.
During a farewell meeting held at the National Assembly Complex, Hon. Munachim Ikechi Alozie, Chairman of the Committee, emphasized that Nigeria and Bulgaria have enjoyed a long history of progressive ties. He described Nigeria as the “giant of Africa,” blessed with rich cultural and traditional heritage, and commended Ambassador Yordanov for his remarkable contributions to the strengthening of bilateral relations.
“We are not here to bid him farewell, but to celebrate someone who, through his deep association and interaction, has become part of us,” Hon. Alozie said, highlighting the Ambassador’s fondness for Nigerian culture and food. He further underscored the continuous growth in trade, economic cooperation, education, human capital development, agriculture, food security, health, energy, and tourism between the two countries.
The lawmaker also announced an upcoming Trade, Investment, and Tourism Mission to Bulgaria, scheduled for July 14th–20th, 2025, encouraging participation from all stakeholders to explore partnership opportunities.
Ambassador Yordanov, in his address, expressed deep gratitude to Nigeria for the warm support he received throughout his tenure. He praised Nigeria as not just a giant of Africa but a leader in many positive endeavors. Reflecting on the successful collaboration between the two nations, the Ambassador noted significant progress in agriculture, business, IT, and infrastructure development.
“I look forward to further strengthening the ties between our countries, particularly in IT and high-tech industries. Both nations have a strong foundation for continued cooperation,” said Ambassador Yordanov.
The farewell ceremony was also attended by the African Coordinator and Director of Parliament for the Africa, Caribbean, and Pacific Joint Session of the African Union Commission Stimulation, who commended the outgoing Ambassador for his dedicated service.
The event concluded with the presentation of a commemorative plaque by Hon. Alozie, symbolizing the enduring partnership between Nigeria and Bulgaria.
