The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended warm congratulations to the United Republic of Tanzania as the country marks its Union Day, commemorated annually on April 26.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Nigeria described Union Day as a historic milestone that signifies the unification of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964 an achievement that laid the foundation for Tanzania’s enduring national unity, political stability, and socio-economic progress.
The statement praised Tanzania’s consistent commitment to peace, democratic governance, and regional cooperation across East Africa and the African continent. It also acknowledged the country’s notable contributions to peacekeeping operations, conflict resolution efforts, and development initiatives aimed at advancing Africa’s shared goals of stability and prosperity.
Nigeria further highlighted the cordial and mutually beneficial relations between both countries, underscoring ongoing collaboration in key areas such as trade, education, culture, tourism, and multilateral engagement. Both nations, it noted, continue to work closely within international platforms including the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN) to promote sustainable development, regional integration, and global peace.
Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, Nigeria expressed readiness to deepen cooperation with Tanzania in areas of mutual interest for the benefit of both countries.
